Concentration unit

Used for every standard and the unknown — you won't re-enter it each time.

Experiment mode

This sets the signal you measure — absorbed light, or emitted light.

Absorption mode

Find an unknown concentration from how much light it absorbsShine broadband light through your sample and compare how much it absorbs against known standards. Calibrate the wavelength scale with either a fluorescent lamp or R/G/B lasers.

Fluorescence mode

Find an unknown concentration from how brightly it emitsExcite your sample and compare how brightly it emits against known standards. Calibrate the wavelength scale with either R/G/B lasers or a fluorescent lamp.

Calibration light

What you'll photograph to turn pixels into wavelengths. Either light works in either mode — fluorescent lamp is the usual choice for absorption mode.

Fluorescent lamp

Calibrate against its known emission linesA fluorescent lamp emits at fixed, known wavelengths. We'll find those bright lines in your photo to learn which pixel is which colour.

Lasers (R/G/B)

Calibrate against three lasers of known wavelengthShine a red, green and blue laser one at a time. You enter each one's wavelength; we overlay the three shots into one image and learn which pixel is which colour from those three lines.

We'll calibrate using these emission lines: 434.5 · 486 · 544 · 587 · 611.5 nm
